Ipswich woman flies to see Dominican Republic baby

An Ipswich woman whose granddaughter was born prematurely, thousands of miles away in the Dominican Republic, has spoken of her joy at meeting her for the first time.

Sharon Halls and her partner Daniel Compton, of Ipswich, were in the Caribbean for a wedding when Evie was born 12 weeks early.

Grandmother Angela Kempen travelled to meet Evie and her parents after insurers paid to get her there.

"I looked down at her and remember thinking, my word, how beautiful," Ms Kempen said.

Evie, who this week weighed 3lb 11oz, is expected to remain in the Caribbean until after Christmas, having been advised to do so by doctors.
