Labour targets Lowestoft and low pay on coast

Labour sent a shadow minister to Lowestoft to highlight its claims of lower-than-average pay in coastal towns.

The party estimated average pay was £350 per week in the Waveney constituency, compared with a national average of £420 per week.

Gloria de Piero, Labour's shadow minister for women, claimed the party was gaining trust on running the economy.

Waveney's Conservative MP Peter Aldous, who won the seat with a narrow majority in 2010, defended the government's record on improving skills and setting up an enterprise zone.
