Demon shrimp found in Staffordshire's River Churnet

Demon shrimp have been discovered in the River Churnet in Staffordshire.

Native to south-east Europe, they are a threat to the native species and wetland food chain, according to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Nick Mott, senior wetlands ecologist, said: "They've got a cousin called the killer shrimp. So you've got killers and demons that have invaded this country in the last few years."

They were first discovered in England five years ago. To stop any further spread, water users are being urged to check their clothes and equipment.
