Car somersaults 20ft into sunken garden in Staffordshire

A man is under arrest in hospital after the car he was driving left the road and somersaulted 20ft (6.1m) into a sunken garden in the middle of a roundabout.

The silver Ford Focus crashed at about 05:00 BST on Grosvenor traffic island on the A34 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

Recovery crews had to drag the car through a subway to clear it from the scene.

The 31-year-old driver is in a stable condition at Royal Stoke University Hospital where injuries are described as non life-threatening.
