MP urges government to fund Somerset Rivers Authority

The government says it wants to help Somerset avoid a repeat of the severe flooding two years ago.

Speaking in the Commons, Rebecca Pow - the Conservative MP for Taunton Deane - urged Ministers to ensure the new Somerset Rivers Authority was funded properly.

The Leader of the Commons, David Lidington, said the government remained committed to ensuring it would be.

But the Conservative MP for Bridgwater and West Somerset, Ian Liddell-Grainger, said adding an amount to the council tax bill, known as "precepting", would not be enough.
