Crashed narrow boat in Oxford to be removed by crane

A crane may be used to lift a crashed narrowboat from a river bridge in Oxford, the Environment Agency has said.

Two narrowboats came adrift, with one crashing into Botley Bridge and blocking Seacourt Stream, a tributary of the Thames.

Four fire engines and a number of emergency vehicles attended the scene in a bid to recover the boats.

Russell Robson, from the Environment Agency, said: "Unfortunately we can't do a river-based recovery at the moment because flows are too high.

"We are looking at lifting the vessel out of the water with a crane."
