Girl 'one of youngest' to get guide dog

One of the youngest people in England to be allocated a guide dog has been taking him into school.

Alice Hopkins, 15, says the benefits of having her dog Billy are huge.

Alice and her Labrador have been attending Tuxford Academy in Nottinghamshire together for three months.

Previously, guide dogs were not paired with children under 16 as they were considered too young to have a dog.

That was changed after a study found young people "made excellent progress" with a guide dog.

Billy has his own "quiet area" and has been welcomed by the staff and students, Alice said.
