Nottinghamshire Great War Roll of Honour records county's sacrifice

All known names of the 11,000 Nottinghamshire men and woman who died during World War I have been compiled in an online database.

Dr David Nunn, lead volunteer for the Nottinghamshire Great War Roll of Honour project, said it would be a unique archive for future historians, researchers and the general public.

Military historian Major John Cotterill said one in six of the male population of Nottinghamshire either died or were wounded - and he knew of no other county that could match that scale of sacrifice.

The volunteers now hope to add biographical detail, photographs, newspaper extracts and entries from diaries and letters.
