United Airlines emergency landing at Manchester Airport

An aircraft carrying 160 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport due to a "mechanical issue".

United Airlines flight UA76 from Belfast to New York/Newark diverted to Manchester, landing safely at 12:41 GMT.

Fire engines were put on standby. No-one was injured in the incident.

A United Airlines spokesman said a maintenance team was inspecting the Boeing 757 aircraft and the crew declared an emergency "as a precaution".
