Firm fined over lorry-crush customer

A company has been fined £12,000 after a customer was pinned against a metal platform by a reversing lorry at a carpet and flooring warehouse.

Plumber Dave Atherton escaped with severe bruising at SIG Ltd's premises in Eccles, Greater Manchester - but said he thought he was going to die.

The company, which admitted two offences of failing to protect customers and staff under the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act, was also ordered to pay more than £9,000 in costs.
