Plans for new Chelsea football stadium approved

Chelsea Football Club has been given permission by its local council to build a new 60,000-seat stadium.

The new stadium - to be built on Chelsea's existing Stamford Bridge site - has been designed by architect Herzog and de Meuron, which was also responsible for the "Birds Nest" Olympic stadium in Beijing.

"We are grateful that planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of our historic home," Chelsea said in a statement.
