Sam King speaks about gospel music on Songs of Praise

The funeral of Jamaican immigrant Sam King MBE, who co-founded the Notting Hill Carnival and helped set up the UK's first black newspaper, is being held in Southwark Cathedral.

Mr King appeared in the first episode of Songs of Praise to feature the London Gospel Community Choir, which was recorded at the south London cathedral in 1982.

During the programme he spoke about why he believed gospel music was so important to people from the West Indies who arrived in Britain after World War Two.
