Whalley Viaduct: £1.6m facelift for 170-year-old structure

A 170-year-old railway viaduct, the oldest in Lancashire, is having a £1.6m facelift.

Whalley Viaduct, which carries trains between Clitheroe and Mancester Victoria, is showing signs of age.

Network Rail says it is strengthening the Victorian structure and adding a drainage system to control excess water flow into the River Calder, which is prone to breaching its banks.
