Liverpool's first Polish councillor calms hate crime fears

Merseyside's first Polish councillor said she was proud of Liverpool and hopeful for the future despite a rise in hate crimes in the UK.

Green councillor for St Michaels ward, Anna Key, was speaking at a gathering called by Merseyside Polish community group, Polonia, to address concerns following the EU referendum result.

"I do trust that the people of Liverpool will continue to respect and live well with their international neighbours," she said.

There has been no increase in hate crime on Merseyside since Britain voted to leave the European Union but there has been a rise of almost 60% nationally.
