Blackpool Illuminations to feature new 'Vegas lightshow'

A digital lightshow will feature in this year's Blackpool Illuminations for the first time thanks to £2m of funding from the Coastal Communities Fund.

The LightPool project will see moving projections across the ballroom, tower and promenade accompanied by a special soundtrack.

Creative curator Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said the display would be "the kind of thing you'd see in Las Vegas".

The Blackpool Illuminations, which first lit up the Lancashire coast in 1879, will be switched on from 4 September.

Beccy Meehan reports.
