Last Remploy factory in NW to close in Blackburn

The last Remploy factory in north-west England is to close on Thursday after nearly 70 years.

The factory for disabled people makes furniture and employs 19 people at its site in Blackburn.

Other sites including Birkenhead, Bolton, Preston, Wigan, Wythenshawe and Oldham have already shut with the loss of around 350 jobs.

Twenty-seven factories have so far closed after the government said they were no longer financially viable.
