Syria fighter from Gillingham 'had sympathy for Kurds'

A Kent man who travelled to Syria to fight against Islamic State has said he chose to go after feeling sympathy towards the plight of the Kurds on the frontline.

Anthony Harrison, from Gillingham, said he went to Tell Brak, in north-eastern Syria, after signing up with Kurdish fighters on Facebook.

He told South East Today's Peter Whittlesea that his only experience of combat before that was via computer games.

Peter Whittlesea also spoke to Afzal Ashraf of the Royal United Services Institute thinktank.
