Kent County Council struggles with migrant issue

A council has said the issue of unaccompanied migrant children arriving in Kent seeking asylum has left it in a financially untenable position.

Kent County Council is currently caring for 270 migrant children - the highest level in two years.

The figures were revealed as the chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, Keith Vaz, visited Calais demanding to know what the French authorities were doing to address the migrant issue there.

BBC South East Today correspondent Colin Campbell spoke to Councillor John Simmons, deputy leader of Kent County Council, Ben Bano, of Seeking Sanctuary Migrant Support Group, and Keith Vaz MP.
