The SAS is to be honoured with a £1m memorial

A new artwork marking the special relationship between the elite SAS regiment and Hereford is set to be installed at the city's cathedral.

A nine-metre-high (30ft) stained glass window, designed by artist John Maine, will be created from 3,000 pieces of glass in 40 colours.

It is expected to cost £1m and will be funded through donations by the SAS Regimental Association.

It is expected to be completed by April 2017.

Herefordshire's links with the SAS date back to the 1960s and the regiment has been at its current base, the former RAF Credenhill, since 1999.
