Jaundice screening plea from dad of boy left partially blind

The family of a four-year-old boy left brain damaged after a student midwife failed to recognise a dangerous form of jaundice has started a petition calling for screening for the condition.

Vasili Kalisperas, from Worcester, was left nearly blind and with hearing problems and no control over his limbs after developing kernicterus.

Public Health England says there is no evidence a screening programme would work.

But Vasili's father disagrees and said: "I'm begging the NHS and the government to look at this again."
