M5 delays explanation 'a joke'

Drivers have shared their anger at the closure of a section of the M5 due to an overhead gantry blocking the road.

The northbound carriageway between junction 5, Droitwich, and 4a, Bromsgrove, was shut for overnight work.

Due to reopen at 06:00 GMT, the carriageway remained closed due to available overnight equipment not being able to remove the gantry.

Carly Race, from Worcester, a passenger in a car stuck in the long queues on the M5, called the Highways England explanation for the over-running roadworks "a joke".

She missed her hospital appointment in Birmingham due to the delays.

Highways England operations manager Sioux Hine apologised for the delays.
