The Brewery Tap open mic night in Worcester - 28.05.12

I really must extend my apologies as it's been a little while since I've called in on possibly the most avant-garde open mic night going - and yes of course it's in Worcester's Lowesmoor at the Brewery Tap on Monday nights!

Kicking off (in every sense possible) was Ledbury's Mike Knowles - with his totally dubious ditties about the fun that's possible with a can of gasoline - but he still manages to throw in a romantic ballad into the mix - oh wait just a minute, maybe it's not quite that romantic... Mike is one of the bubbling-under stars of our fair region. I checked him out at Mamma Jammas a couple of months ago with his metal band Black Sheep but this has morphed to new outfit The Filthy Kind - who I've yet to catch. If you're a fan of the likes of Tom Lehrer - well this guy will be right up your street.

The Tap open mic and their Thursday night Live & Local nights are slung together by Cover Junkies Jay Clark and Eli Cameron and they can always be relied upon to deliver slightly unexpected versions of all-time classics. Well, I've certainly never heard The Osmonds' Crazy Horses played like that before...

But have to say that my main call at the Tap, tonight, was for the incredible hip-hopping outfit Done By Sunrise - only the core duo of Scott and Loren - but they've recently been up to full band strength when supporting the likes of Westlife and Misha B up in the Brummy smoke. There's got to be great times ahead for this outfit who just can't seem to put a foot wrong on the road to superstardom trail - and you know what? They totally deserve it!
