Historian Dan Snow lends his support to Hythe Pier campaign

Television historian Dan Snow has lent his support to a community group's aim to take over the management of Hythe ferry's pier and train.

He posted a video on social media calling the 640m (2,000ft) pier a "national treasure" which should be saved.

The ferry runs between the Hampshire market town of Hythe and Town Quay in Southampton.

The service is facing an uncertain future after operators Hythe Ferry Ltd warned staff about possible redundancies, having suffered a "year-on-year decline" in passenger numbers and faced with higher operating costs.
