First UK Ice Swimming Championships in Swanwick

Thirty-six competitors, swimming in open water temperatures of just 5C (41F), have taken part in the UK's first Ice Swimming Championships.

Men and women from across the UK dived into Andark Lake in Swanwick, Hampshire, to battle it out for a place in the International Championships next year.

Organiser Kate Steels-Fryatt said competitors had come from as far afield as Zimbabwe.

Competitor Ivan Lewis said cold water could put a lot of strain on the body.
