Navy ice patrol ship's rescue bid

The Portsmouth-based ice patrol ship HMS Protector has rescued a team of scientists in danger of being cut off by bad weather in Antarctica.

The Royal Navy ship had to punch its way through dangerous pack ice to pick up the team.

It is the second drama for the ship since it began its patrol in Antarctica.

Days earlier sailors fought a major fire at a research station, in which two people were killed.
