Cheltenham's RNLI Lifeboat receives 150th commemoration

A lifeboat funded entirely by the town of Cheltenham and destined to serve as the first RNLI lifeboat at Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset has been commemorated.

On October 10, 1866, the 32-foot, 10 oar-powered pulling vessel was launched on Pittville Lake.

'Cheltenham' was later transported by rail to Burnham-on-Sea where it remained in service for 21 years, saving 21 lives across the 14 times it was launched.
