The Islanders lead in round-Britain rowing race

Two men from Essex are part of a team leading the 2,000-mile round-Britain rowing race.

Skipper Josh Taylor and Alan Morgan, from Mersea Island, make up half the team of four rowing non-stop round the British Isles in the Anglo American Boat Race GBRow 2013.

The Islanders crew aims to complete the race in 26 days and 14 hours, beating the world record and raising money for Evelina Children's Hospital.

The race started on Saturday and on Thursday their boat was about 20 miles in the lead, north of Penzance, by Thursday.

The race rules allow no contact with the shore or support vessels.
