Research into labour cell salvage

Research into the effectiveness of collecting, cleaning and returning to mothers blood lost during childbirth, is to be conducted in Cornwall.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital has secured £50,000 from the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia to research how effective the technique is in normal delivery suites.

Cell salvage is currently offered to all mothers undergoing caesarean sections in sterile theatres.
