Storm Desmond: Muslim charity helps couple restore home

An international charity that aids victims of flooding have helped a couple in Cumbria restore their home.

Thousands of properties were battered by Storm Desmond in December, depositing a record month's worth of rain in just one day.

George and Diane Russell's uninsured home in Corporation Road in Carlisle was flooded by 9ft (2.74m) of water, leaving Mr Russell trying to fix the property himself.

Volunteer Harris Iqbal, from Muslim charity the Penny Appeal, said the group was "extremely proud" to have helped the couple complete their restoration.
