Pooley Bridge river crossing work begins

Engineers have started work on a new temporary river crossing at Pooley Bridge near Ullswater.

The original 18th Century stone structure was swept away during Storm Desmond in December.

Local residents and businesses have said they are "relieved beyond belief" to see engineers moving three sections of a new temporary structure into place.

Cumbria County Council is hoping the temporary bridge will be open and ready for business before the surge of tourists arrives at Easter.
