Carlisle United: New pitch laid at flooded Brunton Park

A new playing surface is being laid at Carlisle United's ground after the original pitch was destroyed in the floods last month.

At the height of Storm Desmond, a large section of Carlisle's Brunton Park was underwater.

Subsequent home games have had to be played at Preston and Blackburn's grounds.

But the top surface has now been skimmed away and a new £150,000 pitch is being laid ready for a homecoming against York City later this month.

Club captain Danny Grainger says the players are desperate to be run out at home again, and head groundsman Dave Mitchell says the club is trying to make the best of an extraordinary situation.
