Concerns mounting over Castle Rock fall

Concern is mounting for a famous Lake District landmark amidst fears it may break off and fall into the valley below.

Castle Rock, near Keswick, has been a popular haunt for climbers for generations but a widening crack near the summit means a huge rock could soon drop into the valley below.

Climbers are now being told to keep away and people living in the cluster of houses in the valley below have been told to take sensible precautions.

Resident Laurie Walton is resigned to events taking their natural course and Ron Kenyon, the Chairman of the Fell & Rock Climbing Club, has been showing Megan Paterson why people need to keep a safe distance for now
