'Town team' promotes Maryport after Portas Pilot bid failure

A Cumbrian coastal town that failed to gain "Portas Pilot" status has begun a fightback.

Maryport businesspeople hoped TV retail guru Mary Portas would choose her near-namesake town as one of 12 to receive £100,000 to try to revive its high street last year.

But after it failed to be chosen traders have formed their own "town team" in a bid to boost business.
