Jimmy Hill: From player to innovator

Jimmy Hill will be best remembered as presenter of Match of the Day and as an opinionated football analyst for the BBC for 25 years; he was also one of the chief architects of the modern game in Britain.

He worked in every capacity in football - as a player, administrator, manager, chairman, commentator, even emergency linesman.

A charismatic innovator and forward thinker, some of the ideas Hill helped make a reality included the abolition of the maximum wage, establishing a player's right to freedom of movement at the end of his contract and the introduction of three points for a win.
