A38 fuel tanker spill: River Tiddy disaster 'averted'

A major environmental disaster has been "prevented" after 3,500 litres of petrol leaked from an overturned tanker on the A38 close to a river, the Environment Agency has said.

The tanker jack-knifed on the road, which is one of Cornwall's main arterial routes, on Thursday evening.

The Environment Agency said there was "little evidence" of petrol in the River Tiddy at Tideford.

The stretch of road was closed for 20 hours and re-opened on Friday at about 15:00 GMT.
