Clifton Suspension Bridge gets first female bridgemaster

Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol has appointed its first first female bridgemaster.

Trish Johnson is the former regional director at the Institution of Civil Engineers and was previously head of maintenance at the Severn Bridge.

"I've already been up the towers, into the vaults and on the gantry under the bridge and I'm just starting to get my head around the structure and what must be done to preserve it for the future," she said.

She added there were plans to paint the bridge, refurbish the toll houses and improve access to the vaults.
