Christchurch spire repaired after wind damaged top

Workmen had to resort to daring methods to fix the top of the spire at Christchurch in Bristol which is more than 200ft high.

It is believed high winds just after Easter caused part of the steeple to lean towards the church roof.

After an inspection using a giant hydraulic platform it was found part of the mortar had crumbled.

Although scaffolding was erected around the top of the landmark, much of the ascent had to be done using just ropes and ladders.
