Birmingham man attempts world record marathon challenge

An ex-soldier from Birmingham is planning to take on the world's most gruelling endurance race across the Sahara desert, not once but twice.

Gavin Sandford will aim to run the 156-mile Marathon des Sables course back-to-back over Easter in a bid to register a new world record.

In 2014, the physiotherapist pushed a barrel from John O'Groats to Lands End, covering almost 1,200 miles.

Mr Sandford is raising money for three charities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to help wounded soldiers.
