HS2 bosses salaries defended by transport secretary

The salaries of HS2 bosses have been defended by the transport secretary.

A chief executive appointed to run the high-speed rail project is being paid £750,000 - six times that of his predecessor - and the new chairman Sir David Higgins, who visited the Midlands this month, has a salary of almost £600,000.

But speaking on Sunday Politics West Midlands, Patrick McLoughlin said they were going for the "best engineers in the world" for the £42bn scheme.
