Henley Road Cemetery Reading: Flattened gravestones anger residents

Families have said they are "disgusted" after gravestones were flattened by a council in a bid to increase safety at a town's cemetery.

Michael Ravening said he was shocked to be told that he had to walk over other people's graves to get to his relatives resting place at Henley Road Cemetery in Reading, Berkshire.

Reading Borough Council said it was obliged by the Health and Safety Executive to check the safety of gravestones at least once every five years and that they were only laid down "when absolutely necessary".

Work to properly anchor headstones began earlier this week.
