Shopmobility cuts protest staged in Luton

A protest has taken place in Luton over cuts to the Shopmobility service.

It provides scooters and wheelchairs for about 5,000 disabled people to help them go shopping in the Mall.

About 30 mobility scooter riders took part.

Protesters said the service is a life line which helps them go about their day to day lives.

A council spokeswoman said she "empathised" with the demonstrators but government cuts had forced the decision.
