Bedford Hospital: Some paediatric services return

Some paediatric services are returning to Bedford Hospital six weeks after a decision was taken to suspend overnight stays and emergency care following concerns over safety and staffing levels.

The hospital said GPs could refer children to the hospital for "rapid same-day assessment" as part of a service running between 09:00 and 22:00, seven days a week.

However, if a child needs to be admitted to hospital they will continue to be transferred to Milton Keynes or another neighbouring hospital.

Neil Bradford reports.
