Fears over number in North East and Cumbria with debt concerns

Parts of the North East and Cumbria have some of the highest rates of people seeking help for debt problems, according to figures from the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

South Tyneside, Middlesbrough and Copeland, in Cumbria, were among the top 20 worst-affected local authorities in the UK, as were Gateshead, Darlington and Northumberland.

Shona Alexander, the chief executive of Newcastle CAB, said a high level of job insecurity is making the debt situation worse
