Storm power cuts affecting thousands in southern England

Thousands of people have been without electricity in southern England for a second day following the storm on Monday.

Engineers restored supplies to about 10,000 homes overnight into Tuesday after heavy rain and winds of more than 70mph (112 km/h) hit parts of the country.

Scottish and Southern Energy said it aimed to have its customers reconnected by Tuesday night.

The company said it was focusing on rural areas around Basingstoke and Aldershot in Hampshire, Reading in Berkshire and Poole in Dorset.
