Bill Bratton backs police and crime commissioner roles

The former police commissioner of New York has said a similar role in the South East could be as effective in cutting crime.

Bill Bratton was appointed a government adviser in the UK following last year's summer riots.

The new role is being created in 41 police forces across England and Wales, with elections taking place on 15 November.
