Nick Clegg: Stop 'revolving door' of prisons

The former deputy prime minister is calling for the prison population in England and Wales to be cut because they are "dangerous" places at the moment.

Nick Clegg, and two former Home Secretaries, Ken Clarke and Jacqui Smith have written to the Times to express their concerns.

On the Today programme, Nick Clegg said "the current system is ineffective".
