Couple talk about how they tied the knot amid fire chaos

A couple have exchanged wedding vows amid a devastating fire in Exeter, which nearly cancelled their big day.

Fire engines and police cordons didn’t put off the newlyweds exchanging their wedding vows, as a fire raged throughout the weekend after a gas main caught light.

Nicky and her husband Frazer Burling-Hobbs told BBC 5 live’s Adrian Chiles about how the fire didn’t disrupt the ceremony despite the strong smell of smoke, as firefighters attempted to tackle the blaze at The Royal Clarence hotel.

“We didn’t realise that the fire was so close. There was no sirens going on, it was peaceful inside.”
