'I was strip-searched aged 12 by police'

A mother and daughter have described how they were strip-searched by police eight years ago, when daughter Georgia was only 12 years old.

The pair were taken into police custody in south Wales by officers who suspected mother Karen Archer of possessing drugs. No drugs were found and neither was charged with any offence.

According to figures released to the BBC by 13 police forces in England and Wales, more than 5,000 children aged 17 were strip-searched between 2013 and 2015.

The Home Office says it is looking into whether more safeguards are needed.
