Can 'soft defences' prevent flooding in the UK?

It has been three months since floods affected parts of the UK, and as communities continue to clear up the damage attention is focused on how to protect vulnerable areas.

The Environment Agency has now said that it is to include "soft defences", such as natural dams and ponds, into flood prevention schemes.
