Families told brand new homes could be demolished

Families moving into brand new homes in Essex have been warned the houses could be demolished to make way for a Thames crossing.

Campaigners say this could happen to anyone because of a "gaping hole" in the system used to warn people if the house they are buying is under threat.

Highways England said this was the start of a consultation and a number of different routes were still being considered for the new crossing.

BBC Radio 5 live's Adrian Chiles spoke to Alex Hayden and John Venables, who only moved into their new home two weeks ago.
